The North Carolina Tar Heels play the East Carolina Pirates on Saturday afternoon.
North Carolina had the week off after starting the season 2-0. The Tar Heels defeated Liberty and San Diego State in the first two weeks. The North Carolina offense scored 56 and 31 points in the first two games, while the defense allowed 29 and 27 points to their opponents. QB Marquise Williams has completed 39 of 58 passes for 424 yards and a touchdown. Williams has also rushed for 115 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. WR Mack Hollins and WR Ryan Switzer have combined for 18 catches and 255 yards receiving to go along with 2 touchdowns. The Tar Heels have a tough road ahead and it starts this week at East Carolina, who just knocked off Virginia Tech. North Carolina will play Clemson on the road, followed by Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, and Georgia Tech after this weekend’s game at ECU. The Tar Heels will need to play better than they did against San Diego State to beat any of their upcoming opponents.

The East Carolina Pirates improved to 2-1 after earning a huge win over the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday in Blacksburg, VA. The Pirates had lost to South Carolina the week before, but that didn’t stop them from beating Virginia Tech for the first time since 2008. The Pirates jumped out to a 21-0 lead and held on up until Virginia Tech tied the game with a few minutes left. QB Shane Carden ran for a 1-yard touchdown with 16 second left to earn the victory. The Pirates produced an outstanding 502 yards against the Hokies defense. Carden completed 23 of 47 passes for 427 yards and three touchdowns. WR Cam Worthy caught 6 balls for 224 yards, while RB Breon Allen rushed 8 times for 54 yards. East Carolina allowed 389 total yards against the Hokies and forced two turnovers in the win. This was a huge win for the Pirates and they will have a chance to knock off another ACC opponent this weekend at home.
This should be a very competitive game and I could see this game going either way. North Carolina will have had two weeks to prepare for this game, while East Carolina may be in a letdown spot after the big win over Virginia Tech. I would lean towards North Carolina, but my stronger play would be on the over as this game will be a shootout. The last team to possess the ball may win the game in the final minutes.
