The Florida Gators and Alabama Crimson Tide square off in a conference matchup Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The Florida Gators have gotten off to a quick 2-0 start over cupcake opponents and we’re still not sure how much their offense has improved. Sure, Jeff Driskel is completing 63.6 percent of his passes and the Gators ground game is averaging 5.6 yards per carry, but we have yet to see the hurry up from Kurt Roper, and any offense is going to look good against Eastern Michigan and Kentucky. One Florida player who has really emerged is wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, who has 339 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Expect to see a quicker Florida offense that uses Driskel’s athleticism in this game, a style that has bothered Alabama defenses in the past. Defensively, the Florida Gators are allowing 287.5 yards per game and have forced eight turnovers and five sacks. Neiron Ball leads the Gators with two sacks and Vernon Hargreaves III has five pass deflections.

The Alabama Crimson Tide have gotten off to a 3-0 start and have shown no reason why they can’t be one of the four playoff teams this season. Alabama continues to have great success on the ground, as T.J. Yeldon and Derrick Henry have combined for more than 400 rushing yards and the Crimson Tide are averaging more than six yards per carry. Amari Cooper has an insane 454 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 33 receptions. The quarterback position, however, remains a big question mark for Alabama, as neither Blake Sims or Jake Coker have really shown much in the first few games. Although neither have made many mistakes, you have to wonder if either could make plays down the stretch in a close game. Defensively, the Alabama Crimson Tide are allowing 267 yards per game and have forced one turnover and seven sacks. Jonathan Allen leads the Crimson Tide with four tackles for loss and Landon Collins has 27 tackles.
The Gators are 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 games in September and 6-14 ATS in their last 20 games overall. The Crimson Tide are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 conference games and 0-6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Gators are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Alabama.
Florida has the defense to really test Alabama's defense, and we have yet to see the new and improved Gators offense. I can promise you this game will be a lot closer than what oddmakers think, and I'd probably even sprinkle a little something on the ML. The Florida Gators aren't the same team they were a season ago and, well, Alabama hasn't looked that impressive to begin the season.
Take the points and thank me later.
