The Clemson Tigers travel to Doak Campbell Stadium to play the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday night.
Clemson had the week off after starting the season 1-1 by beating S. Carolina State and losing to Georgia on the road in their season opener. The Tigers scored 21 points against the Bulldogs, but scored an impressive 73 points against South Carolina State two weeks ago. QB Cole Stoudt has completed 38 of 60 pass attempts for 446 yards and one touchdown. Freshman WR Artavis Scott, 8 catches for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns, and sophomore WR Mike Williams, 7 catches for 171 yards, are the best receivers on this Clemson squad. Freshman RB Wayne Gallman leads all rushers with 82 yards on 11 carries. The defense played well against a weak South Carolina State team, but they were dominated against Georgia. The Tigers allowed 459 total yards with 328 coming on the ground. Clemson hung around for three quarters against Georgia but were outscored 21-0 in the final quarter. Clemson will now have a chance to knock off the defending national champs, but the defense will have to play much better up front if they even want a chance at winning this game.
USA TODAY Sports
The Florida State Seminoles are 2-0 after beating Oklahoma State and Citadel in the first two weeks and had a week off last weekend. Florida State scored 37 points in each of their first two games. The Seminoles looked a little off compared to how the finished the season last year and they will need to play better at home this weekend to beat a tough Clemson team. QB Jameis Winston has completed 47 of 67 passes for 626 yards and 3 touchdowns. WR Rashad Greene leads all receivers with 15 catches for 283 yards and 1 touchdown. Senior TE Nick O’Leary has 8 catches for 79 yards and a touchdown catch. Senior RB Karlos Williams has carried the ball 32 times for a team-high 132 yards and one touchdown. The Seminoles didn’t play great against Oklahoma State, allowing 364 yards with 161 coming on the ground. Florida State allowed Oklahoma State to convert on 8 of 16 3rd downs. Florida State will have a big challenge this weekend, but they will have a huge crowd on hand to support them throughout.
This game will be in prime time and one would think this game could be pretty competitive even though the spread is set at almost three touchdowns. However, Clemson is not the same team as the last 3 to 5 years and they have a ton of young talent that will need another year to improve. Meanwhile, Florida State has a ton of experience on both sides of the ball and they have arguably the best player in the nation in Jameis Winston. I think the Seminoles will come out fired up after two sloppy performances and the home crowd will be too much for the visiting Tigers. I think the Seminoles get up early and then pull away late and win by 24 to 28 points.
