The Houston Cougars look to get their season pointed in the right direction with the UNLV Rebels coming to town.
The UNLV Rebels saw a late rally fall short in a 48-34 loss to the Northern Illinois Huskies. The Rebels came back from a 28-5 hole to knot the score 34-34 only to watch the Huskies finish the game on a 14-0 run. The offense held up their end of the bargain with nearly 500 yards but NIU rolled up 616 yards and 35 first downs. The UNLV offense struggled to run the ball with Shaquille Murray-Lawrence leading the team with 60 yards on 17 carries with a pair of trips to the endzone. The Rebels were explosive through the air with Blake Decker throwing for 397 yards with two scores and a pick with Devante Davis grabbing six balls for 150 yards and two TD's.

The Houston Cougars rallied from a 16-0 first quarter deficit only to fall short by a 33-25 count to Brigham Young. UH looked dead after 15 minutes but a Hail Mary at the end of the half seemed to give the team some momentum. In the end BYU had too much offense with over 500 yards while their own pass only attack wasn't enough. Houston didn't run often with only 13 attempts for ten yards but the air was much more friendly. John O'Korn gave UH 307 yards on a 30-52 performance with three touchdowns and no interceptions with Daniel Spencer posting ten catches for 133 yards including a 45 yard touchdown.
Houston really looked bad against UTSA in their opener and were awful in the opening quarter versus Brigham Young. If the Cougars play for 60 minutes they should cover but anything less and who knows...
