The New Mexico Lobos travel Aggie Memorial Stadium to tangle with instate rival New Mexico State Aggies.
The New Mexico Lobos hung with Arizona State for 30 minutes before fading in the second half of a 58-23 defeat. A 26-2 Sun Devils run over the final two quarters did the trick with ASU amassing a 621-337 advantage in yardage. The Lobos couldn't generate any stops on defense and the offense was unproductive after the half with three lost fumbles being nails in the coffin. Lamar Jordan provided some bright spots for the UNM air game with a 7-11 effort producing 130 yards and a touchdown but despite the scoreboard New Mexico stayed with the run. Teriyon Gipson and Jhurell Pressley combined for 126 yards on 27 carries but the Lobos rushing attack was silent otherwise.
USA TODAY Sports
The New Mexico State Aggies have struggled versus the UTEP Miners and did so once again in a 42-24 loss. Once the Miners got the lead NMSU couldn't get the stops or points to make a come back. The yardage battle favored Texas El Paso 470-425 with a 344-90 advantage on the ground being the difference. Xavier Hall was the Aggies only runner of note with 44 yards on ten carries as the scoreboard dictated a heavy reliance on the pass. Tyler Rogers wasn't a bad option for the Aggies with 324 yards with a pair of touchdowns but his two interceptions hurt badly. Teldrick Morgan enjoyed a monster eight catch, 202 performance including a 57 yard TD reception put the Aggies were short on playmakers on both sides of the ball.
In my view I like what I have seen from New Mexico State more then what I've seen from New Mexico. If Cole Gautshe and his ailing hamstring were 100% I would really like New Mexico but instead I'm just lukewarm on them...
