The Southern Illinois Salukis travel to Ross-Ade Stadium on Saturday to play the Purdue Boilermakers.
The Southern Illinois Salukis have gotten off to a fast 3-0 start, which includes wins over Eastern Illinois, but this will be by far their biggest test of the season. The Salukis have a balanced offense that averages more than 450 yards, as quarterback Mark Iannotti is completing 71.8 percent of his passes and Malcolm Agnew has 450 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 56 carries. Southern Illinois has four different players with more than 100 receiving yards, and they’ve scored a combined 103 points in their first three games. Needless to say, Southern Illinois can score quickly and in a hurry, which will certainly put a ton of pressure on Purdue’s shaky defense. Speaking of defense, the Southern Illinois Salukis allow 316.3 yards per game and have three interceptions. Boo Rodgers, Adam Brandt and D.J. Cameron are the three players with an interception this season.

The Purdue Boilermakers could certainly use a win after dropping back-to-back games to Central Michigan and Notre Dame. Purdue is struggling on both sides of the ball, as Danny Etling is completing just 57.3 percent of his passes and the defense has allowed a combined 68 points in their last two games. The lone bright spot for the Boilermakers is a running back combination of Raheem Mostert and Akeem Hunt has helped the offense average over four yards per carry. However, when Purdue starts trailing by a ton of points, it’s hard to stay committed to a successful ground game. Defensively, the Purdue Boilermakers are allowing 395.7 yards per game and have forced three turnovers and eight sacks. Landon Feichter leads the Boilermakers with 23 tackles and Ryan Watson has two of the team’s eight sacks.
