The Old Dominion Monarchs pay a visit to Rice Stadium to take the field with the Rice Owls.
The Old Dominion Monarchs improved to 2-1 with a 17-3 decision over the visiting Eastern Michigan Eagles in week three. The Monarchs won the yardage battle 367-215 as the generally potent offense struggled to move the chains while the defense showed some rare backbone with five forced fumbles with two recovered. ODU's big time passing attack was held in check with Taylor Heinicke held to 187 yards and a pick on a 17-30 performance. The ground game outperformed the passing game with Gerard Johnson leading ODU with 90 yards while Ray Lawry added 69 yards including a 55 yard scoring jaunt.

The Rice Owls struggled on both sides of the ball for the second straight week in a 38-10 defeat at the Texas A&M Aggies. Rice had no problem moving the ball with 481 yards and over 43 minutes of possession but finding the endzone wasn't on the menu. The defense gave up 477 yards with the Aggies hitting on a few big plays and missing out on a few because of drops. The Owls received 212 passing yards from Driphus Jackson including a 35 yard scoring strike to Mario Hull. The Owls three pronged rushing attack saw Jowan Davis and Jackson 170 yards with Darik Dillard adding another 50. The Owls moved the chains but were more grind it out while A&M was more explosive.
Old Dominion had a few mistakes that cost them points against Eastern Michigan and Heinicke banged up his shoulder while Rice is probably waiting to play somebody on their own level. I can see the Owls winning big but I see the spread is probably about right. I'm backing the points but will dig further...
