Paulson Stadium and the Georgia Southern Eagles host tha Appalachian State Mountaineers Thursday night.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers are off to a 1-2 start in the FBS following a 21-20 defeat at Southern Mississippi. A botched extra point with six seconds remaining was the reason although three turnovers and eleven penalties negated a 455-329 yardage edge. Marcus Cox paced the Mountaineers on the ground with 119 yards on 22 carries with a TD while quarterback Taylor Lamb hit on 28-40 throws for 264 yards and a pair of touchdowns and two painful interceptions. Malachi Jones and Simms McElfresh each caught seven passes for 130 yards and a TD each.

After losses to Georgia Tech and North Carolina State by a combined five points the Georgia Southern Eagles rode a bruising rushing attack to beat South Alabama 28-6 on the road in week four. GSU piled up 335 yards on the ground and averaged nearly 6 1/2 yards per carry while the defense showed some bite by limiting the Jaguars to 296 yards with a pair of interceptions. Matt Breida paced the Eagles option with 187 yards with scoring runs of one yard and 64 yards while quarterback Kevin Ellison added another 96 yards and a TD. Ellison went 6-11 through the air with a pick that led to South Alabama's lone trip to the endzone while BJ Johnson snagged five of those completions for 76 yards.
I'm not real fond of laying of laying two touchdowns but I am leaning towards the Georgia Southern option to put up a lot of points here...
