The Minnesota Golden Gophers and Michigan Wolverines will meet Saturday at Michigan Stadium.
After getting waxed by the TCU Horned Frogs a couple of weeks ago, the Minnesota Golden Gophers will look to make a statement here. The Golden Gophers are a solid football team that relies on a power running game and defense. The Golden Gophers average 5.1 yards per carry, as David Cobb leads the way with 539 yards and four touchdowns on 92 carries and they have 32 runs of more than 10 yards. The quarterback play from Mitch Leidner hasn’t exactly been great, as he’s completing just 48.1 percent of his passes for two touchdowns and four interceptions. However, when you run the ball as well as Minnesota, I guess the passing success doesn’t matter as much. Defensively, the Minnesota Golden Gophers are allowing 383.8 yards per game and have forced 13 turnovers and eight sacks. Damien Wilson leads the Golden Gophers with 44 tackles and Briean Boddy-Calhoun has two interceptions.

The Michigan Wolverines were embarrassed last week by the Utah Utes and now have a quarterback competition on their hands between Devin Gardner and Shane Morris. Gardner clearly isn’t the answer for the Wolverines after throwing six interceptions in his last three games and getting sacked nine times due to holding onto the ball too long. Besides the poor quarterback play, the Wolverines offense has been successful, including a ground game made up of Derrick Green and De'Veon Smith, a duo that has produced five touchdowns and more than 500 rushing yards. Defensively, the Michigan Wolverines are allowing 261 yards and have forced two turnovers and seven sacks. Jake Ryan leads the Wolverines with 33 tackles and Frank Clark has 4.5 tackles for loss.
The Golden Gophers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 conference games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games. The Wolverines are 17-35-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Golden Gophers are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 meetings.
Will you pick the Michigan Wolverines against anybody with the way they've played this season? Yeah. Me neither. Bottom line is that the Wolverines are a complete mess and the Golden Gophers are actually an underrated squad that's capable of holding its own against any team in the Big Ten. I wouldn't be surprised if the Golden Gophers win this game SU.
