The Florida State Seminoles play the North Carolina State Wolfpack on Saturday afternoon.
The Florida State Seminoles improved to 3-0 with an overtime win over Clemson at home 23-17 last weekend. The Seminoles played without Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, Jameis Winston, who was suspended for making “offensive and vulgar comments earlier in the week on campus. QB Sean Maguire had and up and down game in Winston’s absence, completing 21 of 39 passes for 304 yards to go along with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. The Seminoles were outgained 407 to 317 in total yards and Florida State only rushed for 13 yards. Florida State was only 4 of 15 on 3rd down and committed 8 penalties in the game. A fumble by Clemson and a questionable overtime decision by Tigers coach Dabo Swinney helped the Seminoles avert the upset. Florida State has struggled in 2 key areas this season so far, 3rd downs and stopping the run. The Seminoles need to do a better job up front defensively and they need to keep possession of the ball offensively by converting on 3rd down more often. Winston and the Seminoles should be focused and ready to play on the road this weekend after a sluggish performance last weekend.

The North Carolina State Wolfpack improved to 4-0 on the year after beating Presbyterian 42-0 last weekend. The Wolfpack have played some mediocre competition so far this season but they have taken care of business. The Wolfpack are averaging over 250 passing yards and over 245 rushing yards per game. NC State is putting up over 40 points a game, while allowing only 18.5 to their first four opponents. Junior QB Jacoby Brissett has played well so far; completing 83 of 119 passes for 1005 yards and 10 touchdowns. Junior RB Shadrach Thornton and sophomore RB Matt Dayes have rushed for over a combined 500 yards and 8 touchdowns. Freshman WR Bo Hines and Dayes are leading the team in receiving with almost 400 yards combined and 3 touchdowns. North Carolina State will now host the #1 team in the country and Carter-Finely Stadium will without a doubt be sold out and loud on Saturday afternoon.
I believe Jameis Winston and the Seminoles will come out on fire this Saturday. Florida State will be focused after avoiding an upset at home against Clemson last weekend. The Seminoles will be coming into a hostile environment against a solid North Carolina State team. The Wolfpack will put some points on the board in front of the home crowd, but I think in the end Florida State will pull away to win comfortably. I’ll take the points with the home dog, but my stronger play will be on the over.
