The Ole Miss Rebels and the Memphis Tigers face off on Saturday in what should be an interesting college football matchup.
The Ole Miss Rebels have looked the part of one of the top teams in the nation and ranked at number 11 it is easy to make a case that they might be underrated. Mississippi has looked dominant on both sides of the football with the defense setting the tone with solid textbook tackling and hard hitting. Offensively Bo Wallace has nine touchdown passes and four interceptions completing over 75 percent of his passes. Ole Miss has spread it around in the running game with Jaylen Walton rushing for a 6.4 yard per carry average and I’Tavius Mathers averaging 5.5 yards per carry with two touchdowns. Vince Sanders and Laquon Treadwell each have 15 caches for the Rebels while Cody Core has 12 with four touchdowns. The Ole Miss defense has allowed just 31 total points and they have 8 interceptions, 4 sacks, and a fumble recovery. Mike Hilton has 16 tackles to lead Mississippi, Cody Prewitt has 13 tackles and an interception, and Senquez Golston has three interceptions. Ole Miss will have plenty of chances to prove exactly where they belong in the national rankings as well as in the SEC.

The Memphis Tigers enter this game at 2-1 and are really just looking to elevate their program up a level and back to respectability after some down years. Memphis fought UCLA tough before taking at close loss in Pasadena but after a week off they bounced back with a win over Middle Tennessee State by 17 points. Paxton Lynch as done a decent job at QB completing 66 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and two interceptions completing 66 percent of his passes and he has rushed for three touchdowns. Doroland Dorceus and Brandon Hayes have shared the load in the backfield with Dorceus rushing for four touchdowns. Keiwone Malone leads Memphis in receptions with 15 while Alan Cross has three touchdown receptions. The Memphis defense has three interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and 11 sacks and in order to stay competitive in this one they are going to need to win the turnover battle. Tank Jakes lead the Tiger defense with 25 tackles including 4 sacks and Fritz Etienne and Leonard Pegues each have 14 tackles. Memphis has proved they can play with the big boys but this should be a very stiff test.
Ole Miss is 4-0 against the spread in their last four games, 6-2 against the spread at home, and 7-3 against the spread following a bye week. Memphis is 0-6 against the spread against the SEC, 4-0 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 10-1 against the spread in their last 11 non-conference games. The underdog has covered the point spread in five of the last seven meetings of these two.
Ole Miss has been very tough and I expect them to be tough here and while I expect them to win convincingly, the can do that and still not cover this big number which is what I expect to be the case.
