Legion Field and the Alabama-Birmingham Blazers welcome the Florida International Golden Panthers to town Saturday.
The Florida International Golden Panthers fell to 1-3 in 2014 following a 34-3 loss to the visiting Louisville Cardinals in week four. This one was essentially over at the half with The Golden Panthers down 28-3. Louisville won the yardage battle 336-204 with three turnovers really hurting a team that struggled to move the chains. FIU had no run game to lean on so moving the ball fell to EJ Hilliard who was 8-12 for 70 yards with Alex McGough going 5-13 for 47 yards and a pair of interceptions including a pick six. The difference was the FIU defense saw Will Gardner throw for 300 yards and had no answer.

The Alabama-Birmingham Blazers improved to 2-1 with a 41-14 thrashing of Alabama A&M in week four. The Bulldogs appeared to be heading for a big upset with a 77 yard punt return and 57 yard scoring pass giving them a 14-0 lead but UAB regrouped and dominated the rest of the way. The Blazers defense held Alabama A&M to 352 yards and intercepted three passes while the offense was able to a bit of everything. DJ Vinson gave UAB 106 yards on the ground with five touchdowns while Cody Clements was a deadly efficient 18-23 in the air for 228 yards. Gerald Everett and Kennard Backman were the stars of the Blazers receiving corps with eight catches for 174 yards.
I think both teams have shown improvement from the last few seasons but in my view Alabama-Birmingham has shown more and right now I'll lay the points...
