The Utah Utes and the Washington State Cougars face off on Saturday for a Pac-12 college football matchup.
The Utah Utes are off to a 3-0 start to the season and are coming off of a big road win going into the Big House in Ann Arbor and knocking off Michigan. Utah has never been a contender since their move to the Pac-12 bu this year they might be a team flying under the radar. QB Travis Wilson has thrown the ball just 58 times but he has completed 65.5 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns and no interceptions while Kendal Thompkins is more of a running option at QB but he sees plenty of action. Devonte Booker is option number one in the rushing game for the Utes averaging 5.8 yards per carry with Bubba Poole second most productive averaging 4.9 yards per carry. Kenneth Scott leads Utah’s receivers with 14 receptions followed by Dres Anderson with 13 and they each have 3 touchdowns. Utah’s defense has been stingy against the run and pass and they have three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and 15 sacks. Jared Norris leads Utah defenders with 23 tackles, Nate Orchard has 21 tackles including 4.5 sacks, and Hunter Dimick has 2.5 sacks. Utah seems to have the right mix of a strong defense and a rushing attack that will keep them in a lot of football games.

The Washington State Cougars are off to a 1-3 start to the season with all of their losses coming by 8 or less points. WSU fought hard in their Pac -12 opener on Saturday but came up a touchdown short against Oregon. QB Connor Halliday has completed 68.1 percent of his passes with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions in Mike Leach’s pass first offense. Jamal Morrow and Gerard Wicks have split time in the backfield with neither of them being overly effective for the Cougars. Isiah Myers leads the Washington State receivers with 32 catches and 5 touchdowns while Vince Mayle has 32 catches and three touchdowns and River Cracraft has 23 catches and three touchdowns. The Wazzu defense has two interceptions and a fumble recovery and they have sacked opposing QB’s 11 times. Daquawn Brown is Washington State’s leading tackler with 35 while Ivan McLennan and Xavier Cooper each have three sacks. Washington State needs something to get their season kick started.
Utah is 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games, 13-5 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 Pac-12 games. Washington State is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight road games, 4-0 against the spread in their last four Pac-12 games, and 11-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
I like Utah to win this one but the number seems to be too high as WSU is a great cover team meaning they normally are getting far too many as this on should be in the 5 to 7 range at most.
