The Alabama State Hornets and Alcorn State Braves square off Thursday night at Jack Spinks Stadium on ESPNU.
The Alabama State Hornets have won four straight and are now looking for their first road victory of the season. Offensively, Alabama State is a running football team that averages a healthy 5.9 yards per carry and is led by Malcolm Cyrus who has 750 yards on 101 touches. Alabama State has four players with more than 100 rushing yards, including quarterback Daniel Duhart who has four rushing touchdowns. Running is Duhart’s strength, as he’s completing just 52.3 percent of his passes for six touchdowns and three interceptions. Alabama State has moved the chains 66 times on the ground this season and you can bet the game plan won’t change in this matchup, as the Hornets want to line up and run the ball down their opponent's throat. Defensively, the Alabama State Hornets are allowing 397 yards per game and have forced 19 sacks and 60 tackles for loss. Kourtney Berry leads Alabama State with 52 tackles and Torrey Davis has four sacks.

The Alcorn State Braves are another team that’s been hot this season and prefers to run the football on the offensive side of the ball. On the season, Alcorn State is averaging 6.9 yards per carry and has 21 rushing touchdowns. Darry Ragsdale leads Alcorn State with 415 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 43 carries, while quarterback John Gibbs Jr. has 386 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Alcorn State has 1,700 rushing yards in five games and will look to add to that insane total in this matchup. As far as throwing the ball, John Gibbs Jr. is completing 57.4 percent of his passes for six touchdowns and four interceptions, and receiver Jordan Payne has three touchdowns on just eight receptions. Defensively, the Alcorn State Braves are allowing 262.8 yards per game and have forced 20 sacks and 43 tackles for loss. Devon Francois leads Alcorn State with 43 tackles and Darien Moody has 4.5 sacks.
I'm going with the under here, as both teams like to run the football and have defenses that are decent at stopping the run and making plays in the backfield. This should be a smooth game where the clock runs a ton. This is too many points to ask from two teams that eat the clock up.
