The Florida International Golden Panthers host instate and conference rival the Florida Atlantic Owls.
The Florida Atlantic Owls rallied past the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners 41-37 with Jaquez Johnson hitting Nate Terry with a 15 yard scoring strike with 20 seconds remaining to secure the victory. UTSA held a modest 422-409 advantage in total yardage but they could not contain the air game of the Owls. Jaquez Johnson completed 24-34 for 295 yards with three touchdowns with Lucky Whithead and Jenson Stoshak grabbing TD throws of 21 yards and 47 yards. The Florida Atlantic ground game received 73 yards from Jay Warren but little else. This was not a great performance from the secondary with a 53 yard TD allowed although two interceptions including a 76 yard pick six from Cre'von LeBlanc gave this unit a boost.

The Florida International Golden Panthers were written off before the opening toss at Alabama-Birmingham but they were the superior team in a 34-24 victory. The defense not only held a dangerous scoring Blazers squad to 380 yards but intercepted four passes including a pair of pick six's that covered 25 yards and 31 yards. The defensive side of the football was perhaps better then the offense at scoring with the O totaling less then 300 yards. Having said that Alex McGough made a 9-24 effort in the air a winning performance with 75 yard and 85 yard scoring strikes to Jonnu Smith and Glenn Coleman respectively as UAB did zero right.
I think FIU will only go as far as their defense can take them because their offense is not going to win games. I do like the way this Florida Atlantic squad plays but too many points in this rivalry to ignore. I'll up date Thursday morning however...
