The Georgia Southern Eagles take their option attack on the road to face the New Mexico State Aggies.
The Georgia Southern Eagles shoot for win number three in a row after taking down Appalachian State 34-14. The Eagles rushing attack was operating at peak efficiency with 408 yards and just under seven yards per carry while the team won the yardage battle by a 496-330 margin. Kevin Ellison threw for 73 yards with a 17 yard touchdown strike to BJ Johnson and a pick but he saved his best work for the Eagles run game. Ellison led the Eagles with 151 yards on the ground with a TD while Matt Breida rambled for another 135 yards and a score. The defense came up with stops whenever the Mountaineers threatened and generally kept a lid on the ASU offense.
USA TODAY Sports
The New Mexico State Aggies have shown some improvement in 2014 although it was tough to find any bright spots in a 63-7 loss at LSU in week five. The Tigers put the defensive clamps on the Aggies with 274 yards allowed while recovering a pair of fumbles and intercepting two passes with one turning in to a pick six. The NMSU defense forced four turnovers as well but with 563 yards LSU took advantage of mistakes. The bright spot for the Aggies was Andrew Allen's 79 yard touchdown run but that was about it for the ground game. Quarterback Tyler Rogers had trouble connecting with receivers on 14-32 for 86 yards and a pair of interceptions.
The key here is the Georgia Southern run versus an Aggie run D that has struggled in getting stops. I hate the road chalk but like the match up.
