The Cal Golden Bears and the Washington Huskies face off on Saturday in Berkley on Saturday in Pac-12 college football action.
The Cal Golden Bears are one of he big turnaround stories this season after a disastrous 2013 they have just one loss this season and it came on a Hail Mary on the final play of the game against Arizona. The California offense has been potent scoring 50 points per game led by QB Jared Gofff who has 22 touchdown passes and just three interceptions. Daniel lasco anchors the Bears ground attack averaging 6.2 yards per carry with three touchdowns and Khalf Muhammad has four rushing touchdowns. Bryce Treggs and Kenny Lawler lead the Cal receivers with 22 and 19 receptions respectively and each have five touchdowns. As good as the California offense has been the defense has been a sieve allowing 40.4 points per game with six interceptions, eight sacks, and one fumble recovery. Michael Barton has 35 tackles, Griffin Piatt has 33 tackles and three interceptions, and Jale Jefferson has 32 tackles. Cal is two games away from being bowl eligible.

The Washington Huskies are 4-1 for the season and are coming off of their first loss of the year. After two close calls in their first two games UW blew out Illinois and Georgia Southern before losing to Stanford at home. The Washington offense is averaging 35.6 points per game but QB Cyler Miles is coming off of an uninspiring performance completing just barley 50 percent of his passes for less than 100 yards but he has thrown six touchdowns without an interception this season. Lavon Coleman leads the Huskies ground attack averaging 4.4 yards per carry but he has just one of Washington’s 12 rushing touchdowns and Jaydon Mickens has 23 receptions to lead Washington in receiving. Defensively Washington is allowing 24.2 points with five interceptions, seven fumble recoveries, and 20 sacks. Danny Shelton has 46 tackles and seven sacks, Marcus Peters has three interceptions, and Hau’oll Kikaha has seven sacks. Washington can clearly get after the passer but his is just their first road game since their season opener at Hawaii.
Cal is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, 4-11 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 3-13 against the spread in their last 16 road games. Washington is 5-12 against the spread in their last 17 road games, 0-4 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread, and 2-9 against the spread in their last 11 road games against a team with a winning home record.
Cal games sure have been exciting this season and I expect this one to be as well but I don’t see Washington being able to keep up and I like Cal at home to get the win and the cover.
