The #22 East Carolina Pirates visit Raymond James Stadium to battle the South Florida Bulls Saturday.
The East Carolina Pirates had no problems in blasting Southern Methodist 45-24 as a whopping 41 point favorite. The Pirates improved to 4-1 and broke in to the top 25 behind a somewhat leisurely effort versus the Mustangs that still racked up 581 yards. Shane Carden piled up 410 passing yards and four touchdowns on a 31-41 effort Justin Hardy giving ECU eight catches for 120 yards and three TD's while Isaiah Jones logged nine receptions for 130 yards and a score. Chris Hairston and Carden combined for 100 rushing yards although the Pirates didn't go to the rush often. The defense gave up 390 yards to a strugglling SMU attack but didn't seem to press the issue.

The South Florida Bulls are coming in off a bye week in which they will try to rebound from a 27-10 loss at Wisconsin as a 33 point underdog. The Bulls were given no chance yet the score was 3-3 entering the locker room before the Badgers pulled away over the final 30 minutes. Wisky didn't destroy the USF defense with 454 yards but the Bulls 245 yards and eight first downs says they couldn't move the chains. The visitors ran for less then 75 yards and turned to quarterback Mike White to kick start the South Florida attack but his 8-19 performance for 173 yards and an interception wasn't going to put points on the board.
South Florida has enough talent on the defensive side of the ball to make East Carolina work to score but I think the Bulls issues will be scoring points. I'll look at this during the week so please check back but right now I'll back the chalk...
