The Utah Utes and Oregon State Beavers will meet Thursday in a Pac-12 showdown at Reser Stadium.
The Utah Utes look to remain unbeaten on the road and make another statement in conference play. Offensively, Utah has found itself a running back in Devontae Booker, who has more than 300 rushing yards and two touchdowns in his last two games. All of a sudden Utah is averaging 4.4 yards per carry and is 3-0 SU when rushing for more than 200 yards. Quarterbacks Travis Wilson and Kendal Thompson are completing 59 percent of their passes and have combined for nine touchdowns and one interception. While Utah isn’t greatly accomplished in the passing game, Dres Anderson and Kenneth Scott have produced more than 500 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Utah has won five of its last six games SU when scoring more than 21 points. Defensively, the Utah Utes are allowing 21.4 points, 376.8 yards, and they’ve forced nine turnovers and 28 sacks. Jared Norris leads Utah with 45 tackles and Nate Orchard has nine tackles for loss.
USA TODAY Sports
The Oregon State Beavers hope to remain undefeated at home and remain in the Pac-12 North hunt. Oregon State continues to rely on its offense to win games, as Sean Mannion is completing 64.8 percent of his passes for five touchdowns and four interceptions. Including last year’s bowl win, Oregon State has won five straight games when Mannion tops 200 passing yards. Victor Bolden leads Oregon State with 230 receiving yards and is one of seven Beavers with double-digit receptions. Terron Ward and Storm Woods have combined for close to 700 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, as Oregon State still has one of the worst ground games in the country. Defensively, the Oregon State Beavers allow 23.4 points, 331.4 yards, and they’ve forced 10 turnovers and 11 sacks. Michael Doctor leads Oregon State with 29 tackles and Obum Gwacham has five tackles for loss.
The Utes are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 conference games and 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games following a bye week. The Beavers are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games following a bye week and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games. The Utes are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
I am concerned about the line movement considering Utah opened up as an underdog, but I agree with the public on this one and think the Utah Utes will win this game. The Utes have been playing solid football on both sides of the ball, while Oregon State has been shaky at times. Give me the slight chalk on the road favorite.
