The Cal Golden Bears and the Oregon Ducks face off on Thursday Night in Berkley in a Pac-12 college football matchup.
The California Golden bears are coming off of their second consecutive loss and third loss of the season as they fell to UCLA on Saturday at home. Even with the loss Cal is vastly improved over the team that we saw last season but as strong as their offense has been their defense hasn’t been good enough to beat the better teams. Cal is averaging 41.6 points per game and 496.6 yards. QB Jared Goff leads the Cal offense completing 4.8 percent of his passes with 24 touchdowns and four interceptions. Daniel Lasco is the bears leading rusher averaging 5.1 yards per carry with six touchdowns but the story for Cal’s offense has been he receivers led by Bryce Treggs with 33 catches and five touchdowns and Kenny Lawler with 28 catches and six touchdowns but Cal they also have five other receivers with double digit receptions for the year. Cal’s defense leaves plenty to be desired allowing 38.4 points per game with seven interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and 11 sacks. Cameron Walker is Cal’s leading tackler with 36 followed by Michael Barton with 34 while Griffin Platt has three interceptions. Cal is 2-3 in Pac-12 games this season.

The Oregon Ducks have a loss but they are thinking playoffs as they appear to have it back in gear after suffering their first loss of the year. Oregon’s offense is averaging 43.6 points and 527 yards per game led by Heisman Trophy candidate Marcus Mariota who has completed 70 percent of his passes with 19 touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing for 289 yards and five touchdowns. Royce Freeman leads the Ducks ground attack rushing for 636 yards and 11 touchdowns and Byron Marshall is Oregon’s leading receiver with 34 catches and Devon Allen has 23 receptions. The Oregon defense allows 23.7 points and 448.4 yards per game with seven interceptions, seven fumble recoveries, and 20 sacks. Derrick Malone , Reggie Daniels, and Joe Walker each have 4 tackles. Oregon fell just short of the championship a year ago with la late season loss and then packed it in.
Cal is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games, 5-12 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 3-11 against the spread in their last 14 home games. Oregon is 14-4 against the spread in their last 18 road games, 15-7 against the spread following a win, and 2-6 against the spread in their last eight Pac-12 games. The home team has covered the point spread in five of the last six meetings of these two.
The total is sky high in this one but I still have a slight lean to the over. My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well on the App.
