The Texas El Paso Miners travel to the Alamodome to take the field with the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners.
The Texas El Paso Miners appear as though they have taken a step forward in 2014 although it might be more of a baby step. The Miners improved to 3-3 with a 42-35 shootout victory over Old Dominion in week eight. The numbers say UTEP was dominant everywhere but on the scoreboard with 486 yards and over 41 minutes in time of possession. The Miners were strong on the ground with Aaron Jones leading the way with 103 yards with Josh Bell adding 76 yards and three touchdowns while Nathan Jeffery contributed another 70 yards with a short scoring run. The short passing game of Jameill Showers adding 152 yards with Autrey Golden snagging ten yard and 32 yard touchdowns. ODU mustered 357 yards and scored everytime they smelled the endzone in the second half.
USA TODAY Sports
The Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners are in a spot where they either win or the postseason will have to wait for another year. The Roadrunners have dropped three of four following a 27-20 defeat at Louisiana Tech in week eight. The Roadrunners are banged up at quarterback with their top two options less then 100% which might have been costly versus La Tech. UTSA won the yardage battle 324-278 with neither team standing out offensively. The Roadrunners most productive runner was Jarveon Williams with 73 yards on ten carriers with quarterback Austin Robinson completing 18-29 for 138 yard and zero touchdowns and a pair of interceptions. The Roadrunners also lost a fumble which the Bulldogs returned for a touchdown. The Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners simply made too many mistakes for the production received on the offensive side of the football.
The over is 3-0-1 in Miners last 4 conference games and is 4-0 in Miners last 4 games overall. The Miners are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 road games. Texas-San Antonio is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. loss while the under is 5-0 in Roadrunners last 5 home games and 5-1 in Roadrunners last 6 games on grass. Head to head Texas-San Antonio won this match up 32-13 on the road as a field goal favorite in 2013. The danger in backing the Roadrunners is their quarterback situation which isn't good. The UTSA is good enough to win this but if their friends on the offensive side of the ball keep turning the ball over they have no chance. I'm taking the Roadrunners but need to check out the quarterback situation on Friday so please check back...
