The Florida State Seminoles travel to Louisville to play the Cardinals on Thursday night.
The Florida State Seminoles improved to 7-0 on the season after beating Notre Dame 31-27 at home two weeks ago. The Seminoles have knocked off the likes of Oklahoma State, Clemson, and now Notre Dame. Florida State has not looked as dominate as they did a year ago, but they continue to find a way to win. The Florida State defense hasn’t been as stingy as last year but the Seminoles still rank 29th in points against, allowing an average of 21.6 points per game. The Florida State offense ranks 19th in points scored, averaging just south of 38 points per contest. The Seminoles offense is led by sophomore QB Jameis Winston. Winston has thrown for 1,878 yards with 13 touchdowns and 6 interceptions so far this season. Senior WR Rashad Greene leads all receivers with 52 catches for 791 yards and 4 touchdowns. Senior RB Karlos Williams leads all rushers with 378 yards and 7 touchdowns for the Seminoles. There is a chance that Williams may not be able to play this Thursday due to an ongoing investigation into a domestic assault incident. This will be the Seminoles third road game of the season having beat NC State by 15 and Syracuse by 18 in their first two.

The Louisville Cardinals improved to 6-2 on the season after beating NC State at home 30-18 two weeks ago. The Cardinals bounced back against the Wolfpack after dropping their second game of the season at Clemson the week prior. Louisville’s best win came over Miami at home in the first week of the season. The Cardinals defense has allowed just 13, 21, 10, and 18 points at home this season. Overall, the Louisville defense ranks an impressive 4th in points against, allowing just an average of 14.6 points per game. The Cardinals offense ranks 58th in points scored, averaging 30.9 per game. The Louisville offense is led by sophomore QB Will Gardner, who has passed for 1,151 yards with 11 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions this season. It’s also fair to point out that Gardner sat out two games for Louisville with an injury. The leading receiver on the team is sophomore WR James Quick, who has 30 catches for 451 yards and 3 touchdowns this season. However, the best receiver on the team is senior WR DeVante Parker, who had 9 catches for 132 yards in his return from a toe injury two weeks ago. RB Brandon Radcliff and senior RB Dominique Brown have combined for over 760 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns out of the backfield. This will be the Cardinals fifth home game of the year; Louisville is a perfect 4-0 at home this season.
These two teams have not played one another since 2002 so there isn’t much history to look for in this one. Louisville has a great chance to knock off the defending champs and arguably the best team in the country on Thursday night. Florida State may or may not have Karlos Williams for this one and that could weigh heavily on the outcome. However, the Seminoles has Winston and I’m not going to doubt that he can find a way to win this game with or without his starting running back. The Cardinals defense will make it tough for the Seminoles, but I believe Florida State will find a way late to win this game by at least a touchdown. This should also be a low scoring game that I don’t see reaching higher than the low 40’s.
