The Texas El Paso Miners go on the road to face the high scoring Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
The Texas El Paso Miners look to keep their postseason dreams going with a road win at Western Kentucky. The Miners improved to 5-3 with a 35-14 decision over visiting Southern Mississippi behind strong special teams and defensive play. Southern Miss owned the yardage battle 402-234 but the Miners scored on a 51 yard pick six from Trey Brown and a 59 yard fumble return by Nick Gathrite while Autrie Golden returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown. The offense received 57 rushing yards Nathan Jeffery and saw quarterback Jameill Showers complete 10-23 for 127 yards with a one yard touchdown throw to Katrae Ford. The difference here was UTEP scored a ton of points on Southern Mississippi mistakes.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers postseason hopes are hanging by a thread with Texas El Paso pays a visit on Saturday. The Hilltoppers specialty is lighting up the scoreboard behind a potent passing game although their biggest issue is a porous defense that gives up points in bunches. A 59-10 loss at Louisiana Tech says the offense stalled with less then 300 yards with their normally strong air assault struggling through the worse performance of 2014. Brandon Doughty completed 14-35 for 134 yards with a lone touchdown and a season high four interceptions. Leon Allen gave WKY 76 rushing yards and Anthony Wales contributed 54 yards but rushing yards were not going to be enough with Louisiana Tech ripping the Hilltoppers for over 500 yards.
The Miners are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games on fieldturf and the under is 4-0-1 in Miners last 5 games following a SU win of more than 20 points while the Miners are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game. For Western Kentucky the over is 3-0-1 in Hilltoppers last 4 games following a SU loss of more than 20 points and is 4-0-1 in Hilltoppers last 5 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game with the over going 4-0 in Hilltoppers last 4 home games. I don't like to give up points with the Hilltoppers because of their defense but they will throw on the Miners and UTEP should be able to run so for now I'll take the points and wait for the total...
