The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Mississippi State Bulldogs face off on Saturday in Tuscaloosa in a monster SEC college football matchup.
While the Alabama Crimson Tide are no strangers to big games it seems now they are involved in one every week as they pulled out a huge win in Baton Rouge against LSU last week and now face the number one team in the nation in MSU. Alabama played tough and made plays down he stretch against LSU and the are alive in the college football playoff picture. The Alabama offense is averaging 34.7 points and 487.3 yards per game and are led by QB Blake Sims who has completed 61.6 percent of his passes with 17 touchdowns and three interceptions and he has rushed for 262 yards and five touchdowns and has been clutch all season. T.J, Yeldon was injured against LSU so more than likely Derrick Henry will carry the load on the ground for Bama and he has 554 yards and four touchdowns on the ground and Amari Cooper has 79 catches and 10 touchdowns to lead the Tide in receiving. The Alabama defense allows 13.9 points and 274.8 yards per game forcing 12 turnovers and sacking opposing QB’s 24 times. Reggie Ragland has 69 tackles, Landon Collins has 61 tackles, and Trey Depriest has 50 tackles to pace the Bama D. While Alabama is no stranger to the big game, it will be interesting to see just how much the win at LSU took out of them.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are the number one ranked team in the nation and though they didn’t officially have a bye last week they played and defeated UT-Martin, which is a lesser opponent than they see in their daily practices. The MSU offense has been outstanding averaging 39.8 points and 522.1 yards per game and they are led by Heisman Trophy candidate QB Dak Prescott who has completed 61.1 percent of his passes with 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions and he has rushed for 779 yards and 11 touchdowns. Josh Robinson is the top option on the ground for the Bulldogs gaining 984 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns and De’Runnya Wilson is Mississippi State’s top receiver with 22 receptions and six touchdowns. Defensively Mississippi State is allowing 19.7 points and 427.2 yards per game with 18 takeaways and 32 sacks as they seem to come up with the big plays when they need them most. Bernardrick McKinney has 55 tackles including three sacks, Beniquez Brown has 47 tackles, and Preston Smith has 7.0 sacks. Mississippi State still has tough games ahead including this one and a matchup with Ole Miss.
Alabama is 3-7 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread, 3-9-1 against the spread in their last 13 games, and 4-9-1 against the spread in November games. Mississippi State is 8-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games, and 10-4 against the spread in their last 14 games. The home team has covered the point spread in the last four meetings of these two.
This one presents an interesting matchup because I believe Mississippi State can move the ball on Alabama and I know Alabama can move the ball on Mississippi State so we have a higher scoring game but I see the Tide defense coming up with more stops and I have Bama covering the number.
