The Akron Zips play host to MAC rival the Massachusetts Minutemen in Tuesday night action.
The Massachusetts Minutemen looked to finish the regular season strong beginning with Akron. UMass improved to 3-7 following a 24-10 victory over Ball State behind some very rare defense which is not their specialty. The defense came up with their best effort of 2014 with 286 yards allowed with a pair of fumble recoveries and two interceptions. The offense racked up 569 yards and 27 first downs with Blake Frohnapfel dominating the Cardinals secondary with a 28-44 performance producing 444 yards with a pair of interceptions with Tajae Sharpe hauling in 13 balls for 239 yards. Lorenzo Woodley and Shadrach Abrokwah 141 rushing yards on 30 carries with short scoring runs.

Before the season began I thought the Akron Zips were sure to get a Bowl invitation as I could see this team show enough improvement to go to the postseason. However things have taken a drastic turn for the worse as the Zips have suddenly dropped four straight after a 55-24 defeat at Buffalo in wek 12. The Akron defense did force a pair of turnovers including a pick six but did allow 536 yards with over 300 yards coming on a ground. On the flip side the offense totaled 229 yards with a pair of lost fumbles and mininal gains on the ground and air. The ground game was little more then 75 yards and and less then 2 1/2 yards per touch. Quaterback Kyle Pohl struggled to connect with his receivers with a 15-29 effort giving the team just 128 yards.
The Minutemen are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win and are 8-0 ATS in their last 8 games on fieldturf while the Minutemen are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall. For Akron the Zips are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games overall and are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games on fieldturf while the under is 4-0 in Zips last 4 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game. Akron has really become a different team the past month and not in a good way while Massachusetts has been vastly improved offensively. I'm waiting on a line so check back...
