Joe Aillet Stadium and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs play host to the Rice Owls in week 14 action.
The Rice Owls can tie for first in the CUSA West with a win over Louisiana Tech on the final day of the regular season. The Owls have won seven of eight after dropping the first three games of 2014 following a 31-13 victory over Texas El Paso in week 13. The Owls played well on both sides of the ball with a 392-262 advantage in yardage while recovering a pair of fumbles and holding a dangerous Miners rushing attack to 53 yards. Jowan Davis, Driphus Jackson and Darik Dillard accounted for 163 rushing yards with Dillard scoring twice. Jackson was 10-22 through the air for 227 yards with a pair of touchdowns and a pick with Mario Hull grabbing six ball for 150 yards including a five yard TD.
USA TODAY Sports
Louisiana Tech was looking like the clear cut winner of the CUSA West with a five game winning streak heading in to their bout at Old Dominion as a 13 point favorite before the Monarchs pulled out a 30-27, overtime decision. ODU totaled 395 yards but threw four interceptions although somehow the defense held the Bulldogs to 326 yardsand forced a pair of turnovers of their own. La Tech received 106 yards on 23 carries including a seven yard scoring run from Kenneth Dixon but nothing of note from anybody else. Cody Sokol connected on 19-31 throws for 217 yards with a ten yard scoring toss to Trent Taylor and an interception but this game was won by the often porous Old Dominion defense that prevented big plays and overcame four giveaways.
The Owls are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall and are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games on fieldturf while going 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS win. For Louisiana Tech the over is 3-0-1 in Bulldogs last 4 games on fieldturf and is 10-1 in Bulldogs last 11 home games vs. a team with a winning road record while going 10-2-1 in Bulldogs last 13 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game. Head to head the underdog is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings while the Owls are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings. Louisiana Tech would have won the division with a win over ODU and have left the door open for Rice to kick in. I don't know if they kick it in but I lean La Tech for now...
