The Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl features the Utah Utes locking horns with the Colorado State Rams.
The Utah Utes looked like a challenger in the PAC 12 before a 2-3 finish ended those aspirations. The Utes were 8-4 and competitive in most areas. The defense gave up just over 400 yards and ranked in the bottom third versus the pass with 245 yards allowed with the run D allowing almost 160 yards but a competitive 26 points. Utah did well offensively at 30 points despite 375 yards per game with less then 200 yards passing and around 175 yards running with the ground game being a little above average. QB Travis Wilson wasn't a 300 yard per game passer but he was efficient with 2,012 yards at 60% with 17 TD's and four picks. Kaelin Clay and Kenneth Scott combined for 81 catches for 905 yards while Devontae Booker was the ground game with 1,350 yards on 266 touches and five yards per tote.

Even though the Colorado State Rams lost some talent from a season ago you would never know it as this team stormed to a 10-2 record and pieced together a nine game winning streak that game to an end with a three point loss to the Air Force to conclude the regular season. The Rams could do a little of everything as they outscored the opposition 36-23 with only three teams scoring more then 30 on a defense that allowed 415 yards and could be run on and thrown on at times but was difficult to score on. CSU averaged almost 500 yards behind 326 yards for the #8 passing game in the land that saw Garrett Grayson throw for 3,779 yards with 32 touchdowns with Rashard Higgins totaling 89 catches for 1,640 yards and 17 scores. When the Rams ran the ball went to Dee Hart who averaged 6.7 yards on 187 carries for 1,254 yards so this wasn't a pass only offense.
The under is 5-0-1 in Utes last 6 games following a S.U. win and is 7-1 in Utes last 8 games following a ATS loss while going 8-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. For Colorado State the over is 4-0 in Rams last 4 games following a ATS loss and 4-0 in Rams last 4 games on fieldturf while going 4-0 in Rams last 4 bowl games. With Jim McElwain leaving for Florida we might see a let down or inspired play from Colorado State and I don't have a clue which it will be. I think both defenses will play a strong game so I like the under and will watch the line so check back for updates...
