The Texas A&M Aggies clash with the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Autozone Liberty Bowl.
The West Virginia Mountaineers were within reach of a a ten win season until defeats in three of their last four contests to end the season put those hopes to bed. Neither side of the ball stood out in those losses although this team had proven to be capable finding the endzone and keeping the scoreboard in check for the majority of the year. The WVA defense allowed 389 yards and 26 points and were nearly in the middle of the pack versus both the run and pass. The Mountaineers were far above average offensively at 502 yards behind 314 passing yards which was #9 nationally. The ground game produced 188 yards which was top 45 material with the end result was a 33 points. The problem in the passing game is quarterback Clint Trickett and his 3,285 yards are out with a concussion which leaves Skyler Howard to shoulder the load after completing 36 passes for 483 yards. Kevin White was the top receiver with 1,318 yards followed Mario Alford with 888 yards while Rushel Shell and Wendell Smallwood ran for 766 yards and 645 yards respectively.
USA TODAY Sports
The Texas A&M Aggies likely had their sights set for an upper tier Bowl but consecutive one score losses to end the regular season has the team sitting at 7-5 instead of 9-3. The Aggies did struggle defensively at times with 449 yards and 27 points allowed with a whopping 223 yards given up to opposing rushing attacks. Offensively the Aggies totaled 449 yards and 34 points with the #12 air game that produced 306 yards. Kyle Allen threw for 1,028 yards with Kenny Hill totaling 2,649 yards for 23 touchdowns and eight picks. Josh Reynolds was tops among the receiving corps with Speedy Noil and Malcome Kennedy combining for nearly 1,100 yards. The Aggies were more successful on the ground when Trey Williams had the ball with a team high 474 yards rushing yards with an explosive 6.8 yard average. Tra Carson and Brandon Williams combined for over 800 yards but were more 'four yards' and a cloud of dust type runners.
The under is 4-0 in Aggies last 4 games following a S.U. loss and is 5-0 in Aggies last 5 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game while the Aggies are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game. For West Virginia the under is 5-0 in Mountaineers last 5 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game and is 5-0 in Mountaineers last 5 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game while going 4-0 in Mountaineers last 4 games following a S.U. win. This looks like nothing more then a toss up and for now I'll side with the Aggies and watch the line so please check back Monday morning for an update...
