The Oklahoma State Cowboys open the season on the road with the Central Michigan Chippewas.
On paper the Oklahoma State Cowboys had a successful year at 7-6 with a Bowl win but they were outscored 31-28 and were handled easily in defeats. Mason Rudolph will be taking over under center after throwing for 853 yards in limited action as a freshman. Rennie Childs is the top returning rusher with almost 300 yards although transfer Chris Carson could be the main man. Brandon Sheperd leads a loaded receiving corps that returns just about everybody. The offensive line lost a few starters but there is ample talent coming back which says the holes will be bigger in the rushing attack and the pass protection will give Rudolph plenty of time to make his reads and deliver the ball.

The Central Michigan Chippewas will likely go as far as quarterback Cooper Rush and his right arm will take them. Rush threw for over 3,100 yards and 27 touchdowns with Jesse Kroll taking over as the top target in the receiving corps with Titus Davis lost to graduation. Tight end Ben McCord and Anthony Rice are likely candidates to share some of the receiving burden. The ground game will miss 1,000 yard runner Thomas Rawls but the cupboard is not bare with Martez Walker and Devon Spalding picking up the workload. The offensive line has three starters back and even though a few key pieces are missing from the offense this unit has bodies to fill the voids.
The Cowboys are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games on fieldturf and the over is 4-1 in Cowboys last 5 non-conference games while the under is 4-1 in Cowboys last 5 games on fieldturf. The Chippewas are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Thursday games and are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games in September while going 2-7 ATS in their last 9 non-conference games. I think a decent run game is all the Cowboys need because the passing attack will be good and if so I like the Chips to score a bit to push this over the total…
