The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers visit Vanderbilt Stadium to face the Vanderbilt Commodores.
The Vanderbilt Commodores ended 2014 at 3-9 with a struggling offense being an issue with the team being outscored 33-17. Quarterback Johnny McCrary threw for 985 yards but was little more then a 50% passer so Wade Freebeck might get the call. Virtually every player that caught a pass returns with Latevius Rayford, Steven Scheu and CJ Duncan the top receiving options. Ralph Webb was the workhorse on the ground with 907 yards on 212 carries and the team is hopeful those numbers improve with the returning experience up front. Opponents were able to move the ball but Vandy has plenty of three and four star athletes although some are young and life in the SEC isn’t easy as well.

Fans of offensive football have to watch the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers who outscored the opposition 44-39 so the scoreboard operator was always busy. The Hilltoppers should once again be scoring fiends with so much talent back beginning with 4,800 yard passer Brandon Doughty who has four of his top five targets back including Jared Dangerfield who led the team with 825 yards. The rushing attack wasn’t grabbing headlines but it was chewing up chunks of yardage with Leon Allen (272-1542) and Anthony Wales (82-518) doing the majority of the damage. The defense returns almost everyone and whether that’s a good thing for a unit that allowed 39 points is open for debate.
The Hilltoppers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Thursday games and the over is 5-1 in Hilltoppers last 6 non-conference games while Western Kentucky are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. SEC. The over is 4-0 in Commodores last 4 vs. CUSA and the Commodores are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. CUSA and the over is 5-2 in Commodores last 7 non-conference games. The Hilltoppers defense makes them a scary bet but hopefully they score enough…
