The BYU Cougars and Nebraska Cornhuskers meet Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
The BYU Cougars look to build on three straight seasons of eight victories, as they’ve reached a bowl game for 10 straight years. Taysom Hill returns at quarterback after completing 66.7 percent of his passes for 975 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions. Mitch Mathews and Mitchell Juergens combined for more than 1,300 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns while Colby Pearson had 16 receptions as a sophomore. Algernon Brown leads the way at running back after picking up 324 yards on 68 carries. Defensively, Manoa Pikula returns at linebacker after racking up 48 tackles, Bronson Kaufusi had seven sacks and Travis Tuiloma had six tackles for loss.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have won 38 games the last three seasons and head into the year with a new coach in Mike Riley. Tommy Armstrong Jr. returns at quarterback after completing 53.3 percent of his passes for 2,695 yards, 22 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Jordan Westerkamp and De'Mornay Pierson-El combined for more than 1,100 receiving yards and nine touchdowns while Alonzo Moore had 10 receptions as a sophomore. Terrell Newby takes over at running back after picking up 297 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, Nate Gerry returns at defensive back after racking up 88 tackles, Maliek Collins had 4.5 sacks and Greg McMullen had seven tackles for loss.
The Cougars are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 non-conference games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Cornhuskers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Nebraska lost a few key players but still has a playmaking QB and a terrific home field advantage. I like BYU, especially with Hill returning from injury, but it's hard not to take the Cornhuskers and lay the one touchdown. Look for Nebraska to start the season with a big win and cover.
