The Line: Memphis Tigers -23 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Memphis Tigers look to open the season with a bang when the Missouri State Bears take the field.
Dave Steckel takes over a Missouri State Bears program that finished 4-8 in 2014 and 1-7 in the MVFC. The Bears struggled to find the end zone on a consistent basis as they were outscored 26-23 and lost over half their starters coming in to the new season. Quarterback Kierra Harris is gone and takes with him nearly 2,000 passing yards and 677 rushing yards with him while Brodie Lambert has a whole four pass attempts under his belt. Calan Crowder and Phoenix Johnson combined for almost 1,300 yards on the ground while Malik Earl and Eric Christophel combined for 40 receptions and over 500 yards to give the passing attack some hope. MSU returns some experience defensively but enough to carry the offense?

The Memphis Tigers averaged 36 points and allowed 19 on their way to a 10-3 record in 2014 so we can say with confidence that team could do it all. The offense has many of the same pieces back with quarterback Paxton Lynch bringing back over 3,000 passing yards and 446 rushing yards along with five of the top seven receivers. Jarvis Cooper and Doroland Dorceus will take over the running game behind an experienced offensive line. The defensive side of the football gets back enough talent to where there shouldn’t be a major drop in production although the secondary is a question mark although everything is on paper and not based on performance.
The Bears are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September and are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall while going 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. The over is 5-0 in Tigers last 5 home games and the Tigers are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September while the under is 6-1 in Tigers last 7 games in September. This might be closer then most people think but I think the overall talent of Memphis gets the job done late…
