The Tennessee Volunteers and the Bowling Green Falcons face off on Saturday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville as they kick off their 2015 college football schedules.
The Tennessee Volunteers enter year three of the Butch Jones era and here is excitement in Knoxville following last season’s bowl demolition of Iowa. Joshua Dobbs is back at QB for the Volunteers and it was Dobbs that sparked the Vols offense last season adding his mobility. Jalen Hurd anchors the Tennessee backfield but Alvin Kamara should see plenty of action while Marquez North leads the receiving corps. Derek Barnett and Curt Maggitt combined for 21 sacks for UT last season, Cameron Sutton is the best of the DB’s, and Jalen Reeves-Maybin anchors the Tennessee linebackers. After so many down years Tennessee looks poised to emerge back o the national scene and they have a schedule that if they can win will put them there.

The Bowling Green Falcons are coming off of a big season but there is still plenty of room for improvement for Dino Babers’ team. BGSU is stacked on offense as QB Matt Johnson returns from injury and James Knapke has a ton of experience winning games. The Bowling Green rushing attack is led by Travis Greene who has scored 26 touchdowns over the pas two years and Roger Lewis is the top receiver. The key to the Falcons offense is their offensive line that returns all five starters. While there are zero question marks about the Bowling Green offense, the defense was pretty miserable last season. Most of BGSU’s defense is gone and Bryan Baird, Zach Colvin, and Darrell Hunter II are among the seniors. If Bowling Green’s defense can improve at all this could be a memorable year for them.
Tennessee is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games against the MAC. Bowling Green is 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five games.
Expect a lot of points and with the total set at 60 though it makes this a tough call but it is just a lean to the under as it is both teams first live game action of the year. My stronger pick is on the winning team agaisnt the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
