The Line: Cincinnati Bearcats -6.5 -- Over/Under: 52.5 See the Latest Odds

The Temple Owls will travel to Nippert Stadium to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats this Saturday evening in College Football action.

The Temple Owls (1-0, 0-0 AAC) had one of the biggest wins in recent program history as they were able to defeat the Penn State Nittany Lions 27-10, their first win over Penn State since 1941. Temple got out of gates slowly but was able to hold Penn State scoreless for the final three quarters for the victory. Leading the way for the Owls was RB Jahad Thomas (29 car, 135 yds, 2 TD) and QB P.J. Walker (15-20, 143 yds). The biggest story of the day was the Temple defense that held the Nittany Lions offense to just 180 yds for the day. Penn State’s Christian Hackenberg, who is ranked as the best QB prospect this year, was held to just 103 yards and an INT on the day. Hackenberg was pressured throughout the contest and was sacked 10 times on the day. Temple in one of the more experienced teams in the AAC with 19 returning starters and if their defense can continue to play with the same level of intensity that it showed last Saturday, they certainly could win the AAC this season.

The Cincinnati Bearcats used a 28-point second quarter to build a commanding 35-7 lead at halftime and went on to beat the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 52-10 this past Saturday. Leading the way for the Bearcats was Gunner Kiel who was an efficient 18 for 22 with 233 yds and two touchdowns. Cincinnati was able to outrush the Bulldogs by a 296-98 margin and were led by Tion Green (17 car, 127 yds, 1 TD), Hosey Williams (18 car, 95 yds, 1 TD) and Mike Boone (13 car, 86 yds, 2 TD). Leading the way for the WR’s was Johnny Holton (3 rec, 81 yds, 2 TD) and Shaq Washington (7 rec, 69 yds). Cincinnati is returning 13 starters (8 on the offensive end) from a team that went 9-4 (7-1 AAC) last season. Cincinnati has arguably the strongest offensive in the conference and a deadly combination between QB Gunner Kiel and WR Mekale McKay.

The Owls are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games on field turf and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games. The Bearcats are 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 conference games and 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win.

This is a huge game for both teams to start off their AAC conference games as both Temple and Cincinnati are the favorites to win the AAC-East. The biggest storyline from this game is to see whether or not the powerful Cincinnati offensive can generate points against the strong Temple defensive. As Temple is a well-coached and experienced team, I don’t expect the Owls to have a letdown in an important AAC game and I think the Owl defense will do enough to at worst keep it within this number. Take Temple and the points.
