The Nevada Wolf Pack opened the season with a 31-17 victory versus FCS UC Davis in what many thought to be a rather close but this was never in doubt with the score 21-3 heading to the locker room. However on paper was where this was close with Nevada leading 395-327 in total yards with each team totaling 22 first downs. Wolf Pack quarterback Tyler Stewart was an efficient 13-20 for 163 yards and a touchdown but this game belonged to a strong rushing attack that averaged almost six yards per touch. Don Jackson paced Nevada on the ground with 124 yards on 13 carries with two trips to the end zone while James Butler added 65 yards on 14 tries. Jerico Richardson and Hasaan Henderson were the receivers of note for the Wolf Pack with eight catches for 125 yards.
I was interested to see how Nevada would do without Fajardo at quarterback and I believe Stewart might be a decent short passer but I don’t know about his ability to tuck it and run but it was a good effort overall versus UC Davis. As for Arizona I’d be disappointed if I was a fan because they didn’t impress against Texas-San Antonio for the second straight season. The Wildcats appear a tad over rated and need to prove otherwise here…
