The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders take their offense to Memorial Stadium to face Illinois.
The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders appear to be a solid team although a 73-14 beat down of Charlotte doesn’t tell us if the team is really good or the 49ers are really bad. Suffice to say the Blue Raiders were the class of that match up with a 42 point first quarter explosion ending the game. MTSU rolled up 695 yards any way they chose while allowing 219 yards and forcing seven turnovers. Quarterback Brent Stockstill gave the Blue Raiders a formidable air attack with 369 yards and five touchdowns with Terry Pettis and Ed’Marques Batties combining for nine receptions for 287 yards and five scores. Middle Tennessee State was just as dangerous on the ground with Jordan Parker and Desmond Anderson combining for 244 yards on 26 totes with another four TD’s.

The Illinois Fighting Illini had their way on both sides of the ball in defeating Kent State and FCS Western Illinois but the shoe was on the other foot in a 48-14 loss at North Carolina in week three. The Tar Heels effectively threw and ran their way to 471 yards while the Illini posted 399 yards with 227 yards coming on the ground. Quarterback Wes Lunt could not give Illinois consistency in the air on a 15-32 effort for 140 yards and an interception. The Fighting Illini were productive on the ground behind Josh Ferguson’s 22 carry, 133 yard performance with a trip to the end zone while Ke’Shawn Vaughn added 51 yards on 13 touches. The issue was the Illini needed more from the passing game given the score.
The Blue Raiders are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in September and the over is 4-0 in Blue Raiders last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game while going 4-0 in Blue Raiders last 4 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game. The under is 5-0 in Fighting Illini last 5 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game and is 4-0 in Fighting Illini last 4 vs. a team with a winning record while the Fighting Illini are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games. I think these teams aren’t that far apart which makes the points inviting…
