The Ole Miss Rebels and the Vanderbilt Commodores face off on Saturday in Oxford at Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium in a SEC college football matchup.
The Ole Miss Rebels return home after last weeks monster win at Alabama that vaulted them to a top five ranking. The Mississippi offense is averaging 64 points and 567 yards per game and they hit big plays at all of the right times in Tuscaloosa. Rebels QB Chad Kelly appears to be getting better by the play as he has completed 64.4 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and an interception and he has run for three touchdowns. Jaylen Walton leads the Rebels ground game with 136 yards and two touchdowns and Laquon Treadwell has 14 catches and one touchdown as Mississippi’s top receiver and Cody Core has 12 receptions and three touchdowns. The Ole Miss defense is allowing 20.3 points and 369.7 yards per game with three sacks, three fumble recoveries, and seven interceptions. Denzel Nkemdiche is Mississippi’s leading tackler with 15, Tony Bridges has 14 tackles, and Trae Elston has three interceptions. Ole Miss will need to avoid the letdown from any hangover they may have after last week’s win.

The Vanderbilt Commodores are coming off of their first win of the season but I came against FCS Austin Peay. The Vandy offense is averaging 24.3 points and 442 yards per game but against FBS opponents they haven’t scored more than 14 points. Vanderbilt QB Johnny McCrary as completed 59.8 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and five interceptions and he has rushed for 116 yards. Ralph Webb leads the Commodores in rushing with 192 yards and two touchdowns and Trent Sherfield leads the receivers with 21 catches and four touchdowns. The Vandy defense is allowing 17.3 points and 270 yards per game with six sacks and one fumble recovery. Oren Burks leads Vandy’s defense with 16 tackles, Darreon Herring has 14 tackles, and Andrew Williamson has 13 tackles. Vandy will need to start winning the turnover battle if they hope to have more success.
Ole Miss is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, 6-2 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread, and 7-3-1 against the spread following a win. Vanderbilt is 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 SEC games, 6-1 against the spread in their last seven road games, and 8-3 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread. Vandy has covered the point spread in seven of their last eight games at Mississippi.
It’s tough laying this many points in a SEC conference game but I see Ole Miss creating to many urnovers for Vandy to overcome.
