Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium and the East Carolina Pirates host the Virginia Tech Hokies Saturday.
The Virginia Tech Hokies turned up the defensive intensity in routing Purdue 51-24 where the dominated the Boilermakers in the final 30 minutes to win easily. The Hokies did what they wanted offensively with 471 yards and owned the ball for over 38 minutes while the ‘D’ allowed only 265 yards with a pair of interceptions and a fumble return for a score along with a blocked punt return for another TD. Brenden Motley gave VT an efficient and productive passing game with 220 yards and two touchdowns on 15-24 with Isaiah Ford hauling in six balls for 128 yards. Trey Edmunds, Travon McMillan and JC Coleman gave the Virginia Tech rushing attack some muscle with 171 yards on 28 carries.

The East Carolina Pirates had some bright spots against Navy in week three but not enough of them in a 45-21 defeat. The Midshipmen rode their option to 456 yards an almost 37 minutes of possession while the Pirates totaled 405 yards with a pair of giveaways. This game came down the Middies run versus the Pirates passing and Navy won that battle 415-325. Having said that East Carolina threw the ball well without injured Kurt Benkert as Blake Kemp connected on 36-49 for 325 yards and three touchdowns with an interception. Isaiah Jones was the Pirates top receiving target with ten receptions for 130 yards but the passing attack did not get much from the ground game that averaged less then four yards.
The over is 4-0 in Hokies last 4 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game and the Hokies are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing home record while the over is 4-0 in Hokies last 4 games on grass. The Pirates are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. ACC and are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game while going 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games after allowing more than 450 total yards in their previous game. The under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and the Hokies are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 meetings while the underdog is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings. I don’t think East Carolina will be able to run on the Hokies and if Virginia Tech can limit the ECU air game the win and the cover should belong to them…
