Centennial Bank Stadium and the Arkansas State Red Wolves faceoff with the Idaho Vandals.
The Idaho Vandals number one problem is they haven’t scored enough points to keep pace with an ailing defense. That trend continued in a 44-20 home loss to the Georgia Southern option in week four where the Vandals hung around until fading badly in the second half. The Eagles owned total yardage 568-395 with 441 yards coming on the ground while Idaho leaned on their passing. Quarterback Matt Linehan was 20-35 for 284 yards and a pair of touchdowns but two interceptions were killers. Dezmon Epps was the Vandals top target with eight catches for 165 yards and both scores while Elijah Penny was Idaho’s only source of running with 84 yards on 23 touches with four catches for 50 yards.

The Arkansas State Red Wolves have struggled to a 1-3 record out of the gate although the competition has been tough. The Red Wolves were expected to give Toledo a run for their money in week four but never got anything positive going in a 37-7 defeat. ASU was outgained 477-209 and had the ball for 21+ minutes with six fumbles (two lost) and three interceptions including a pick six. With Arkansas State totaling less then 50 yards the passing of James Tabary took center stage but he completed just 18-35 for 223 yards with three INT’s. The Red Wolves are one of the favorites in the Sun Belt and need to avoid too many more defeats.
The Vandals are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a losing home record and the over is 5-1-1 in Vandals last 7 road games while Idaho are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game. The over is 5-0 in Red Wolves last 5 vs. a team with a losing record and the Red Wolves are 11-2 ATS in their last 13 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game while the over is 5-1 in Red Wolves last 6 home games. The underdog is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 meetings and the home team is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings. Neither team gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling so perhaps the points for now…
