The Rice Owls fell to 2-2 (1-0 C-USA) on the season after they had no answers for the dynamic offensive of the 5th ranked Baylor Bears and were defeated last Saturday 70-17. Rice was outgained by the Bears by an incredible 793-246 margin and allowed Baylor to gain 427 yards on the ground. Offensively, Rice has been averaging 34.8 ppg and have been led by QB Driphus Jackson who has completed 62.5 % of his passes for 750 yards, 6 TD’s and 3 INT. Dennis Parks has been the main option for Driphus Jackson as he currently has 19 receptions for 303 yards and 3 TD’s on the season. The Owls have a duel rushing attack which is led by Samuel Stewart (46 carries, 222 yards, 3 TD) and Darik Dillard (38 carries, 195 yards, 3 TD). Defensively, the Owls are allowing 38.0 ppg on the season but 112 of the 152 points that they have allowed have come against the Texas Longhorns and Baylor Bears. The Bears have only been able to force 5 turnovers on the defense this season and have been led by LB Alex Lyons who had 19 tackles.
The Hilltoppers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games on field turf however, just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Owls are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. loss and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games.
The Hilltoppers have an outstanding offensive but there defense still has some major question marks and certainly can allow some points in bunches. Rice might have gotten blown out by Baylor but they still are one of the better teams in C-USA and has a great offensive that certainly can put up points when needed. I think most people will be going with WKU after what they did last week but Rice is a much better team than Miami (OH) and as they are strong a home, I’m going to take the points and the over in this one. Take Rice and Over!
