The Line: Florida International Golden Panthers -14.5 -- Over/Under: 50 See the Latest Odds

The UTEP Miners will travel to FIU Stadium to take on the Florida International Golden Panthers this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.

The UTEP Miners had trouble generating much offensive and fell to 2-3 (0-1 C-USA West) on the season after being defeated by Texas San Antonio Roadrunners 25-6 this past Saturday. UTEP was outgained by Texas San Antonio by a 335-275 margin and committed 5 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Miners was WR Jaquan White who had 77 yards and a TD on 6 receptions. On the season, UTEP is averaging 23.2 ppg on 358 yards per game. Leading the way for the Miners offense is QB Ryan Metz who has completed 60.4% of his passes for 743 yards, 6 TD, and 5 Int. The Miners suffered a huge loss after losing their best offensive player in RB Aaron Jones for the year due to an injury and will be counting on LaQuintus Dowell (17 carries, 89 yards, TD) and Kavika Johnson (33 carries, 87 yards). Leading the way for the receivers for UTEP is Hayden Plinke (17 receptions, 231 yards) and Jaquan White (21 receptions, 209 yards, 2 TD). Defensively, UTEP has struggled throughout the season as they are allowing their opponents to average 41.2 ppg. UTEP has only forced five turnovers on the season and have a turnover margin of minus-7. Leading the way for the defense has been LB Alvin Jones (37 tackles, 5.5 sacks) and DB Kalon Beverly (25 turnovers).

Florida International vs. UTEP - 10/10/15 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Florida International lost their second straight game and dropped to 2-3 (0-1 C-USA East) on the season after being defeated by the Massachusetts Minutemen 24-14 this past Saturday. The Golden Panthers did a solid job keeping a decent UMass offensive in check but couldn’t get anything going on the offensive end as they were outgained by a 495-188 margin. Leading the way for the Golden Panthers was RB Alex Gardner who had 59 yards and TD on the ground to go along with 10 receptions for 58 yards. Offensively, Florida International is averaging 21.4 ppg on the season. Leading the way for the Golden Panthers offensive has been QB Alex McGough who has completed 64.6% of his passes for 1129 yards, 10 TD and 2 Int. Thomas Owens is the leading receiver for the Panthers as he has 29 receptions for 349 yards and 5 TD’s. RB Alex Gardner is a focal point in the offensive as he has 84 carries for 305 yards and 3 TD on the ground to go along with 26 receptions for 217 yards. Defensively, Florida International is holding their opponents to 23.0 ppg. Leading the way for the Golden Panthers defense has been LB Anthony Wint (41 tackles) and DL Denzell Perine (16 tackles, 4 sacks).

The Miners are 5-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 conference games. The Golden Panthers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss and 5-2 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.

UTEP was one of the surprising teams in C-USA last season but the loss of Aaron Jones is really going to hurt the Miners chances to get back to a bowl game this season. FIU has been up and down this season and although their offense has struggled to put up points, they’ve been competitive in some their more challenging games against Louisiana Tech and Indiana. Both of these offenses are tough to trust but as UTEP strength is their passing defensive, I think they’ll be able to keep FIU’s Alex McGough in check and I just think FIU being favored by more than two TD’s is too much to ask for a team that averages just 21 ppg this season. Take UTEP and the points.
