The Georgia State Panthers welcome the Appalachian State Mountaineers to the Georgia Dome.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers have been strong on both sides of the ball and were once again in a 31-13 win versus visiting Wyoming in week four. The Mountaineers jumped to a 21-7 lead and were never challenged although Wyoming led 373-314 in yardage and played better then the score indicated but two lost fumbles and Latrell Gibbs 91 yard pick six gave ASU an early 14-0 lead. Appalachian State had an uneven day in the air with Tyler Lamb going 3-12 for 65 yards with an 18 yard touchdown to Simms McElfresh and an interception. Marcus Cox paced a dominating Mountaineers rushing attack with 178 yards on 15 carries including a 59 yard scoring run.
USA TODAY Sports
The Georgia State Panthers have struggled in their second season in the FBS with a 1-3 record following a 41-33 defeat at the hands of FCS Liberty. Liberty totaled 502 yards and had the ball for over 43 minutes. Pass first GSU posted 405 yards with leading rusher Kyler Neal with 30 yards on just seven touches. The pressure of moving the chains fell on the right arm of quarterback Nick Arbuckle and he didn’t let Georgia State down on an 18-29 performance for 394 yards for 394 yards and three touchdowns and an interception. Donovan Harden led GSU with five catches for 179 yards with a 76 yard TD while Penny Davis caught a 58 yard scoring strike.
The under is 4-0 in Mountaineers last 4 games overall and the under is 4-0 in Mountaineers last 4 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game while the Mountaineers are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game. The Panthers are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games and the over is 4-0-1 in Panthers last 5 games in October and is 7-1-1 in Panthers last 9 conference games. I don’t think Appalachian State played well last Saturday and need a rebound here…
