The Bowling Green Falcons will travel to Dix Stadium to take on the Kent State Golden Flashes this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Bowling Green Falcons improved 5-2 (3-0 MAC-East) on the season after dismantling the Akron Zips 59-10 this past Saturday. Bowling Green proved to be no match for a generally strong Akron defensive as they outgained the Akron by a 532-262 margin and forced the Zips into committing four turnovers. Leading the way for the Falcons was QB Matt Johnson who completed 25 of 30 passes for 357 yards and 5 TD’s. On the season, Bowling Green has shown to be one of the top offenses in the country as they are putting up 43.3 ppg on 594.3 yards per game. Leading the way for the Falcons has been QB Matt Johnson who has completed 70.5% of his passes for 2891yards (413.0 yards per game), 24 TD, and 3 Int. WR Roger Lewis has been the main weapon for Matt Johnson as Lewis has 54 receptions for 1020 yards and 9 TD’s. The rushing attack has been led by Travis Greene (94 carries, 537 yards, 4 TD) and Fred Coppet (76 carries, 419 yards, 2 TD). Defensively, Bowling Green is allowing their opponents to average 32.6 ppg. Kent State used a strong defensive effort to defeat the Massachusetts Minutemen 15-10 and improved to 3-4 (2-1 MAC-East) on the season. Kent State dominated time of possession and outgained the Minutemen by a 327-257 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Golden Flashes was QB George Bollas who completed 20 of 25 passes for 135 yards, a TD and INT while also rushing for 79 yards on 15 carries. On the season, Kent State has struggled a bit on the offensive end as they are averaging just 18.0 ppg on 317 yards per game. The Golden Flashes went with the freshman George Bollas over the more experienced Colin Reardon against UMass and although Bollas didn’t put up a huge game, he was effective and will probably remain the starting going up against the Falcons this Saturday. Trayion Durham (88 carries, 301 yards, 2 TD) and Rawkwon James (48 carries, 172 yards) lead the rushing attack for Kent State. WR Ernest Calhoun has been the main target for the Kent State at the WR position as he has hauled in 11 receptions for 141 yards and 2 TD’s on the season. Defensively, Kent State is holding their opponents to an average of 24.7 ppg on 290.7 yards per game. The Golden Flashes currently have a plus 5 turnover margin and their defense is led by DB Nate Holley (67 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 INT).
The Falcons are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a losing road record. The Golden Flashes are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game however, just 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 home games.
Kent State looked great on the defensive side of the ball against a UMass team that some decent weapons, however, I just don’t see them being able to stop the Bowling Green offensive that is on a roll at the moment as they’ve put up 121 points in their last two games. Bowling Green rolled over an above average defense in Akron and as Kent State really doesn’t have much on the offensive end, I think the Falcons roll in this one and easily cover this number. Take Bowling Green to cover.
