The Army Black Knights take their option to Rice Stadium to square off with the Rice Owls.
You never know what you will be getting from the Army Black Knights although they have been very competitive despite what their 2-5 record says. The defense has generally played well but the Black Knights option hasn’t been scoring a ton of points which was a trend that continued in a 21-14 win versus visiting Bucknell. Army outgained the Bison 377-280 but turned the ball over three times. Quarterback AJ Schurr was having a poor day passing even by Army standards but tossing a 68 yard scoring strike to Edgar Poe late in the 4th to win it. Schurr was 3-8 for 100 yards with Poe catching each completion. Schurr led the Black Knights on the ground with 99 yards and two TD’s on 31 tries followed by a four carry, 56 yard effort by Jordan Asbury.

The Rice Owls have been difficult to nail down and I have yet to figure out their identity. The Owls kept their postseason hopes alive with a 27-26 win at Florida Atlantic that evened their record at 3-3. Florida Atlantic mustered 391 yards behind an effective passing while the Owls did a little of everything. Quarterback Driphus Jackson connected on 22-34 for 284 yards and three touchdowns for Rice with Zach Wright and Connor Cella combining for eleven receptions for 153 yards and a touchdown apiece. Darik Dillard led the Owls on the ground with 106 yards on 23 touches while Jowan Davis delivered 43 yards on nine carries.
The under is 4-0 in Black Knights last 4 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game and is 5-1 in Black Knights last 6 games overall while going 5-1 in Black Knights last 6 non-conference games. The over is 4-0 in Owls last 4 games following a ATS win and the Owls are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record while the over is 6-0 in Owls last 6 vs. INDEP. I’m actually leaning Army with their tendency to keep things close…
