Raymond James Stadium and the South Florida Bulls host the Southern Methodist Mustangs.
The Southern Methodist Mustangs have played a tough schedule which explains their 1-5 record. The SMU offense sometimes puts up a fight but the defensive side of the football has struggled to get stops and we saw that in a 49-28 defeat at Houston in week six. UH won the yardage war 457-399 which wasn’t bad but the Mustangs three lost fumbles were killers. The passing of quarterback Matt Davis kept Southern Methodist competitive with 248 yards and three touchdowns on 21-35 while Darius Joseph caught two passes for 63 yards an a score. The Mustangs didn’t run often but Xavier Jones and Davis totaled 98 yards on 25 carries with Davis finding the end zone.

The South Florida Bulls seemed to be heading for another dismal campaign and might still but they have won consecutive contests to even their record at 3-3 following a 28-20 victory at Connecticut. The Huskies had some good looking numbers with 528 yards while USF totaled 461 yards and gave the ball away twice. Quarterback Quinton Flowers gave the Bulls an uneven day in the air as he completed 11-15 for a pair of touchdowns and two interceptions while D’Ernest Johnson was 1-1 with a 29 yard scoring strike. Marlon Mack led the South Florida rushing attack with 113 yards on 13 totes but Flowers and Johnson gave him some help with 98 yards and 50 yards respectively while Rodney Adams caught five balls for 118 yards and three touchdowns.
The over is 4-0 in Mustangs last 4 games following a SU loss of more than 20 points and is 5-0 in Mustangs last 5 games after allowing more than 450 total yards in their previous game while going 4-0 in Mustangs last 4 games on grass. The Bulls are 4-0-2 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game and the under is 11-1 in Bulls last 12 home games vs. a team with a losing road record while going 9-1 in Bulls last 10 vs. a team with a losing record. I see a scenario where either team covers so I’ll take the points and dig further…
