The Houston Cougars put their perfect record on the line against the visiting Vanderbilt Commodores.
The Vanderbilt Commodores are very much alive for a Bowl invite but they can’t lose many more against a decent schedule. Defense has been Vandy’s strength because their offense is not suited for shootouts. That made week eight’s 10-3 victory versus Missouri a perfect example of how this team plays. The Commodores led 7-3 entering the locker room until kicking a 4th quarter field goal. Vandy won the yardage battle 304-188 and had the ball for 38+ minutes. Vandy quarterback Kyle Schurmur went 10-20 for 89 yards with while Johnny McCrary completed 7-8 for 47 yards but neither guy could get the ball downfield. Ralph Webb was viable runner for the Commodores with 99 yards on 26 tries with a TD.

The Houston Cougars possess on of the more explosive offenses in the game which is why the team is undefeated but the defense has to be credited with keeping the scoreboard under control. UH racked up 600 yards and 30 first downs and once they started scoring in a 59-10 rout of Central Florida in week eight the Knights were in big trouble with four giveaways on just 280 yards. Quarterback Greg Ward Jr. led a balanced Cougars attack with 210 yards and a touchdown on 16-23 while adding 46 yards and a score with his legs. Kenneth Farrow led UH on the ground with 167 yards and three touchdowns with Ryan Jackson adding another 75 yards and a TD while Demarcus Ayers led the receivers with five receptions for 92 yards and a score.
The under is 4-0 in Commodores last 4 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game and is 7-0-1 in Commodores last 8 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game while going 3-0-1 in Commodores last 4 games following a ATS win. The Cougars are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a SU win of more than 20 points and are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game while going 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game. I’m backing Houston for now and revisit later in the week…
