The Tulsa Golden Hurricane go on the road to face the Southern Methodist Mustangs.
If there is a team that really needs help defensively it’s the Tulsa Golden Hurricane who can score points in bunches but give them up even faster. That trend was apparent in a 66-44 loss to visiting Memphis where no defense was played with the Tigers amassing over 700 yards while Tulsa piled up 534 yards but gave the ball away three times. The Golden Hurricane were spotty on the ground with a few decent runs but not enough to cause opposing defenses concern. Quarterback Drew Evans gave Tulsa a potent passing game with 421 yards and four touchdowns and an interception on 24-36. Keyarris Garrett was a monster in the Tulsa receiving corps with 14 catches for 268 yards and three scores.

The Southern Methodist Mustangs are struggling to get defensive stops which has led the way to five consecutive defeats. That trend continued in a 38-14 defeat at South Florida where the offense also had problems. Both teams finished in the 350-360 yard range but the Mustangs lost three fumbles and threw a pick. The SMU passing game was iffy with Matt Davis going 9-24 with 113 yards with an interception before Darrel Colbert completed 11-13 for 120 yards and a touchdown while nine players recorded receptions. Xavier ones ran for a team high 51 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries but the bottom line is mistakes and inconsistency were killers.
The Golden Hurricane are 0-4-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games while going 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games on fieldturf. The over is 4-0 in Mustangs last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game and is 9-1 in Mustangs last 10 games following a ATS loss while the over is 8-1 in Mustangs last 9 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game. The underdog is 9-1 ATS in their last 10 meetings and the Golden Hurricane are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 meetings while going 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Southern Methodist. I think Tulsa has enough offense to overcome defensive issues so I’ll lay the chalk…
