The Alabama Crimson Tide are 8-1 this season and control their own destiny in the SEC West and in the College Football Playoffs. The Alabama offense is averaging 33.1 points 423.2 yards and they have turned the ball over 15 times. Tide QB Jake Coker has completed 64.9 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions and he has rushed for two touchdowns. Derrick Henry leads the Alabama rushing attack with 1.254 yards and 17 touchdowns and Calvin Ridley is the top receiver with 52 catches and three touchdowns. The Alabama defense is allowing 16.3 points and 265.3 yards per game with 13 interceptions, six fumble recoveries, and29 sacks. Reggie Ragland leads the Alabama defense with 74 tackles, Eddie Jackson has five interceptions, and Jonathan Allen has six interceptions. Alabama appears to be getting better as they hope to get a chance to avenge last season’s playoff loss.
Mississippi State is 5-1 against the spread in their last six home games, 5-1 against the spread following a win, and 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games. Alabama is 4-0 against the spread in their last four road games, 0-4 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread, and 4-0 against the spread on the road against a team with a winning home record. The home team has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
Alabama has to be somewhat spent after leaving it all on the field against LSU but Mississippi State’s offense is a little too one dimensional to take advantage so I look for Alabama to wear MSU down and win pulling away.
