The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Florida Gators face off on Saturday in Columbia in a week 11 college football battle of SEC East teams.
The South Carolina Gamecocks have played improved football in recent weeks but it hasn’t been good enough as they sit at 3-6 for the season. The South Carolina offense is averaging 21.7 points and 367.1 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 12 times. Gamecocks QB Perry Orth has completed 53.6 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns and six interceptions and he has rushed for two touchdowns. Brandon Wilds leads USC in rushing with 507 yards with two touchdowns and Pharoh Cooper is the top receiver wit 48 catches and five touchdowns. The Florida Gators are 8-1 this season and they have clinched a spot in the SEC Championship Game. The Florida offense is averaging 28.6 points and 367.2 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 10 times. Florida QB Treon Harris has struggled at times and he has completed 54.9 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and one interception. Kelvin Taylor leads the Florida ground attack with 631 yards and 11 touchdowns and Demarcus Robinson has 45 catches and two touchdowns. The Gators defense is allowing 14.6 points and 288.8 yards per game with 11 interceptions, eight fumble recoveries, and 27 sacks. Antonio Morrison leads UF with 71 tackles, Alex McCalister has 6.5 sacks, and Vernon Hargreaves has four interceptions. The Gators are very much in contention for the College Football Playoffs if they can win out.
South Carolina is 5-2 against the spread following a loss, 5-2 against the spread in their last seven home games, and 1-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Florida is 7-1 against the spread in their last eight road games, 6-2 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven SEC games.
South Carolina has lost back-to-back close ones and with Harris at QB I’m not sure how far Florida can extend a lead so I have to take the home team with the points.
