The UCF Knights couldn’t get their first win of the season and dropped to 0-10 (0-6 AAC East) on the year after being defeated 45-30 by the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on November 7th. UCF Knights got off to a slow start against Tulsa finding themselves down 24-3 at halftime and committed four turnovers in the loss. UCF was led by WR Tre’Quan Smith who had 131 yards and a TD on 7 receptions. On the season, UCF is averaging just 15.7 ppg on 278.6 yards per game (199.9 passing, 78.7 rushing). UCF is led by QB Justin Holman who has 6 TD and 11 INT this season while averaging 164.7 yds/game. The rushing attack has been pretty much non-existent this season for the Knights as C.J. Jones is their leading rushing while averaging just 29.10 yds/ game. Tre’Quan Smith is the only receiver averaging greater than 50 yds/ game as he is averaging 57.2 yds/game and has 3 TD’s on the season. Defensively, UCF is allowing their opponents to average 36.4 ppg on 449.2 yards per game (253.2 passing, 196 rushing). UCF has had trouble protecting the football as they have committed 28 turnovers this season and has a turnover margin of minus 15. Leading the way defensively for the Knights has been LB Chequan Burkett who has 43 tackles and 3.0 sacks.
The Pirates are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous games however, just 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Knights are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 Thursday games however, are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games.
East Carolina has struggled to find consistency on offense this season and although they’ve played tough at Florida and BYU, the Pirates haven’t looked that impressive in their three game losing streak. UCF has had a year they would like to forget as they still are looking to pick up their first win of the season. East Carolina still has a fighting chance to become bowl eligible if they can win their last two games and I’m hoping that this motivation along with the weak UCF defense will allow East Carolina to cover this large spread. Take East Carolina to cover.
